A few legislative happenings in Kentucky.

Rep. Jeff Hoover has added several amendments to HB 70, the "restore felons voting rights" bill. These amendments will mandate that those convicted of manslaughter, prostitution, trafficking in drugs within 1000 yards of a school and manufacturing meth. can only receive executive pardons.

I can think of no reason for these amendments, other than as "poison pills" designed to kill the bill.

If Kentucky is SERIOUS about coming out of the DARK ages on this issue, then these amendments MUST fail. Otherwise, then let the original bill fail.

Crimes that have NOTHING to do with the electoral process, do NOT deserve denials of a person's right to vote.

Another bad bill is HB 468, introduced by Rep. Jim Gooch, to require editorial writers and cartoonists to register as lobbyists.

I wonder if the sponsor of this bill has ever heard of the FIRST Amendment. Just in case, I am posting that amendment.

And the silver lining in the dark clouds here is a bill, HB 473, introduced by Rep. Jim Wayne, to keep lottery winner's identity private. I'm sure if you won the lottery you wouldn't want to be paraded like cattle on TV, at a GREAT risk to your well being and life.

Update: Maybe below is the Joel Pett cartoon that got Jim Gooch all "riled up".
