Bush vetoes intelligence bill that also bans "waterboarding".

President Bush has vetoed an intelligence bill that has a provision in it that bans waterboarding, because the bill "would take away one of the most valuable tools on the war on terror."

According to Bush, "Limiting the CIA's interrogation methods to those in the Army Field Manual would be dangerous because the manual is publicly available and easily accessible on the Internet. . . . If we were to shut down this program and restrict the CIA to methods in the Field Manual, we could lose vital information from senior al-Qaeda terrorists, and that could cost American lives."

As a side note, US national intelligence chief, Mike McConnell, has previously stated that the water-boarding "would be torture" if he were subjected to it.

What to get out of all this? Well, all of this means that waterboarding, whether torture or not, is acceptable when we use the technique on terrorists.

This, of course, also means -- if logic is applied to the line of reasoning -- that waterboarding is also acceptable, if applied to our folks, by the terrorists!

Any thoughts?
