U. S. Senate will "wade into the water", hold hearings on report of prescription drugs in our drinking water. We welcome the inquiry.

The United States Senate will "wade into the water", so to speak, and hold hearings into the prescription drugs in tap water fiasco reported here yesterday.

Sen. Barbara Boxer, who heads the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, and Sen. Frank Lautenberg, chairman of the Transportation, Safety, Infrastructure Security and Water Quality Subcommittee, said Monday the oversight hearings would likely be held in April.

Also, U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz, D-Pa., is reported to have asked the EPA to establish a national task force to investigate the issue and make recommendations to Congress on any legislative actions needed.

Schwartz says to the Head of the EPA, "Like many Pennsylvanians, I was especially taken aback by the finding of 56 different pharmaceuticals discovered in the drinking water for the City of Philadelphia.. . . The Associated Press report raises serious questions about the safety and security of America's water system."

Those of us in Louisville will appreciate the inquiry and corrective action, too.
