Kentucky U. S. Senate Endorsements: We Endorse Senator Mitch McConnell, And Reluctantly For The Democrats, Bruce Lunsford.
Sorry this blog forgot to make endorsements earlier as expected. I had professional duties that have been keeping off these pages, but here go the endorsements.
For the Republicans, we know that there is NO contest, and we WHOLEHEARTEDLY URGE and ENVISION of a return to the Senate of our Minority Leader, Senator Mitch McConnell.
For the Democrats, it's a much, much HARDER task to endorse ANYONE, for the two top candidates are good candidates. Realizing, however, that we have an obligation to endorse one of them for the Democrats, we have decided to EVER so RELUCTANTLY endorse Bruce Lunsford.
We would not be so reluctant to endorse Bruce Lunsford considering his support of Republican candidates, which suggests to us that he has some conservative DNA in him, if not that this "good news" is spoiled by two facts: One, Lunsford's admission that he was merely buying influence -- an admission that GREATLY troubles us, because one who is EAGER to buy influence is likewise equally EAGER to sell it; and two, Lunsford's "misstatements" as to how much he has given to Republican candidates, suggests a trait that may make many people uncomfortable about another trait which that revelation may have revealed.
But we are encouraged by the Lunsford claim that he wants to change Washington, and the way business is done there. This year, to an extent, appears to be a year of change, though Lunsford's new found desire to "make Washington work for a change", still fails to fully re-assure this writer that he does not want Washington to continue to work for him, and him alone.
But we are willing to give him a partial pass for the Democratic primary.
Why not Greg Fischer, you ask? Well, while Greg Fischer ran many ads deriding Bruce Lunsford for supporting Republicans with past campaign contributions, he failed to mention that he did the same thing himself, as Lunsford's new ad points out.
And, we can expect that he did it for the same reasons as Lunsford, but ONLY Lunsford is HONEST enough to admit it.
Frankly, we hate hypocrites and those who conceal the truth, of the kind that Fischer has been exposed to be, and do, on these issues.
Ditto on Fischer's ads taking Bruce Lunsford to task for Lunsford's Vencor problems.
As we now know, thanks to Bruce Lunsford, Fischer's business is guilty of its own (ahem) employee business "issues" (admittedly not in the same magnitude as Lunsford's Vencor "issues").
For me, hypocrisy is STILL hypocrisy, and this Writer hates it.
So it's Bruce Lunsford for this blog, if EVER so RELUCTANTLY.
Tomorrow: Presidential candidates.
