Mountain GOP leader predicts 'big' Paul win
SOMERSET, Ky. (AP) -- The leader of Kentucky's mountain Republicans is predicting a "big" win for U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul, despite a barrage of attack ads hammering the tea party favorite on issues of importance to the state's conservative voters.
U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers appeared with Paul at a GOP picnic in Somerset on Saturday, the same day TV stations across the state began airing perhaps the harshest ad of the campaign. It claims that during Paul's college years he belonged to a secret society that called the Bible a hoax. And it says his God was Aqua Buddha.
The ad by Democrat Jack Conway's campaign is certain to stand out in airwaves already clogged with campaign spots. Paul said he takes the attack personally and he plans to respond.
