Ky congressman sees photos of Osama bin Laden

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler has seen photographs of Osama bin Laden's body, and he says the images are "quite gruesome."

The Kentucky Democrat says there's no doubt the photos show the man who plotted the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

Chandler told The Associated Press that he went to CIA headquarters to view the photos Thursday morning.

Chandler said some bloody photos show a wound running diagonally across bin Laden's forehead from his left eye to the right top of his forehead. Chandler was given access to the photos as a member of the House Intelligence Committee.

He said he understands why President Barack Obama decided not to release the pictures, given their gruesome nature. But Chandler said he still thinks the photos should be shown to the public.
