Kentucky candidates differ on executive pardon power.
Kentucky candidates for Governor, Ernie Fletcher and Steve Beshear, GREATLY differ on the extent of the Governor's pardon power -- a topic that could become an issue in the upcoming general election because of Fletcher's pardon of members of his administration indicted in the merit system investigation.
Fletcher doesn't see anything wrong with the law that is "the last stop for justice" in "instances of prosecutorial abuse where the interest of justice would be truly served."
His opponent, Steve Beshear, will, if elected, move for a constitutional amendment to prevent "a power that was never meant to allow a governor to hide criminal acts by his political friends from the public."
What are your thoughts?
