Bruce Hendrickson Was For Frank Simon Before He Was Against Him... But He's Not Really Against Him Now, Just Kinda

Some liberals have called Frank Simon “an extremist bigot.” But the campaign of Bruce Hendrickson were proud to have him… at least for a while. Now they say he’s a cancer on Christianity. Which is it, Bruce? Is Frank Simon a cancer on the body politic? Your former campaign manager and principle flack on the web thinks so: Simon is a cancer for all good Christian people in Kentucky and yes I am a Christian, if I am shunned because of by love for Christ, I am clearly in the wrong place… by: Shack @ Thu Oct 04, 2007 at 09:33:01 AM CDT The post to which Shack was commeting was cross posted on Hendrickson’s former campaign manager and now most prominent water carrier on the web, William Shackleford’s blog, Rural Democrat.

But if the Hendrickson forces are playing coy with the Simon endorsement now, back in the primary, while Hendrickson was officially working for Hendrickson they proudly wrote: "3 organizations have endorsed Bruce Hendrickson for Secretary of State. One in particular is the Freedom Heritage Forum PAC, they are in the process of mailing out 100,000 voter guides to various religious institutions across the state. With the threat of a miserably low turnout for this primary, the Church vote may be the most coveted vote in the Commonwealth."

What’s more, according to survey’s and questionnaires filled out by the Hendrickson campaign, he’s against expanding legalized gaming and is against extending benefits to same sex couples. These are perfectly defendable positions, but they put him in direct opposition to the Beshear-Mongiardo campaign on two of its signature issues. (BTW, Hendrickson is the only Democratic candidate running for office this year who stakes out these positions. )

All in all, it kinda makes one think that ol’ Bruce is shooting from his hip and not ready for the big leagues.

A footnote: Even Hendrickson allies are calling for him to disavow the endorsement of Frank Simon:

"In comments, someone from Hendrickson's campaign has taken the blame for the endorsement and called it a mistake. The question of whether Simon endorsed Hendrickson because he thinks Bruce shares his disgusting world view or because he likes to f%&$ with liberal heads remains open. Other commenters demand Hendrickson publicly refuse the endorsement and disavow Simon. I concur. Bruce: Refuse Simon's endorsement and disavow him publicly, and you will gain many votes and contributions. Stay silent or just equivocate and you will make it next to impossible for even Yellow Dog Democrats to vote for you. "

Editor's Note:

Just noticed that the footnote, which was a quote from another blog with the exception of my introduction (see hyperlink in footnote) contained the "F" word.

I avoid that kind of conversation in my blog b/c I feel it cheapens political discourse. I compounded my error my failing to italicize the quote, which I do instead of using quotations or offsets.

A reader caught this at my blog and rightfully said they were dissapointed. I've cleaned the word up and used italics the way I should have. Sorry for anyone who was offended.
