The senate bill, approved in an 81-16 vote, added rebates for 20 million senior citizens and 250,000 disabled veterans to a measure previously approved by the House. The bill now goes to the White House where President Bush has promised to sign it.

Why the House initially omitted senior citizens and vets is unclear, especially if these people paid any taxes to be rebated, is mind bugling. That's politics for you, I guess.
