In Kentucky, Millionaire Bruce "Money Bags" Lunsford Opens up His Wallet, Thanks To U. S. Supreme Court.

As our friends are reporting at Pol Watchers, Kentucky Senate candidate, Millionaire Bruce "Money Bags" Lunsford, has opened up his wallet to write himself a $1 million check for his campaign moments after the U. S. Supreme Court CORRECTLY struck down the anti-Democratic law that forbade rich candidates from spending their own money (LIMITLESSLY) to run for public office.

Frankly, as I stated in my earlier post here about the Court's opinion, if you've got it (money), burn it for all I care.

And that burn it includes spending to run an ill fated campaign.

Having said that, let me say this:

I also am in support of the position taken by Public Campaign Action Fund, which is reported to have sent a letter to Bruce Lunsford in which it asks Lunsford to sign its Voters First Pledge -- a project in conjunction with Common Cause and Public Citizen -- which calls for "a system of public financing of elections for qualified candidates who agree to strict spending limits and to take only small donations."

Maybe, just maybe, we can begin to reform our corrupt Democracy.

Osi,
Until 527's and other groups supporting a particular candidate can be eliminated the public financing will not work. The big donors give to them instead of the candidates and do not have to limit the amount they can give.

You are ABSOLUTELY right. That is EXACTLY the reason I support Barack Obama's VERY SMART decision to forgo public financing in favor of small personal, rather than special interests', donations on the internet!
