Mess at Walter Reed claims another General.

The mess (and appallingly nauseating conditions) at the Walter Reed military hospital, detailed last month by the Washington Post and reported on this blog, has claimed its third high ranking official. This time the Army's Surgeon General, Kevin C. Kiley, is forced into involuntary retirement. Before him, Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, forced Army Secretary, Francis Harvey, to resign and Maj. Gen. George W. Weightman, who was in charge of Walter Reed since August 2006, was ousted from his post. Meanwhile, Veterans Affairs Secretary, Jim Nicholson, has also ordered his department's clinics to provide details about their physical condition by next week to ensure that Walter Reed is not repeated elsewhere. President Bush, for his admirable part, has commissioned a bipartisan group to investigate problems at the nation's military and veteran hospitals. And separate reviews are reportedly under way by the Pentagon, the Army and an inter-agency task force led by Secretary Nicholson. With all these resignations and reviews, one should expect that we NEVER EVER have to IGNORE the plight of our fighting men and women or put them through the shameful treatment that is now Walter Reed.
