Mellinda Wheeler, GOP Treasurer candidate, calls for the abolition of the Treasurer post ...

... is she being courageous and truthful or foolish and full of folly? You be the judge.

Update: The Ken Upchurch campaign for Treasurer sent out a response email accusing Ms. Wheeler of a "lack of insight" in her "involvement in the destruction of tens of thousands of old Jefferson County court records" and suggested her abolishment call is "yet another illustration of her indifference, inexperience, intransigence and ineptness".

What do you think?

Is she right? I don't know anything about the Treasurer office.

But if it has no real duties, in today's world of electronic finance, then this is a really bold initiative.

Funny, but the only candidate in the race to have the ba**s to speak the truth is a woman!

But I have met Melinda one time and she is far from a shrinking violet.

In a republican primary, calling for the abolition of a huge drain on the budget that has been rendered unnecessary is a big plus, not to mention balzy.

She's got my vote.

I don't believe her. She has been running a campaign for how long now and all of a sudden she realizes that the office should be disbanded? Sounds like political opportunism to me, not fiscal conservatism.

And I too have seen her speak, how anyone could take her seriously is beyond me.

This is a ploy. She knows that the General Assembly would never pass a Constitutional Amendment abolishing the office. Think about it. She gets into office, then leads the charge to abolish it. Then, how many people will step forward and say "If you don't want to do it, I will. And I'll do it better than you, and I will make the office of Treasurer mean something."

Wheeler has been Brett Hall's horse for her entire "campaign," carrying him around to various campaign events so he can conduct his political consulting business for Fletcher's people.
