Fred Thompson uges pardon for "Scooter" Libby. Do you agree or not?
Senator Fred Thompson, soon to be Republican candidate for President in 2008, has urged the President to pardon "Scooter" Libby. Here's the Senator's opening, followed by his conclusion, excerpted:
The sentencing of Scooter Libby was the last in a series of acts that has resulted in a shocking injustice – one created by and enabled by federal officials. As I’ve been saying for many months, this is a “he said-she said” case about political infighting that would have never been brought in any other prosecutor’s office in America.
...
For the preamble to our Constitution, our founders stated explicitly the purposes for our Constitution. Listed even before providing for domestic tranquility or for the common defense was the establishment of justice. Official behavior, with regard to matters like the Scooter Libby case, are not what our framers had in mind. Now this excessive sentence, given by the Federal District Judge is just another in a long line of reasons why Mr. Libby should be pardoned.
Do you agree or disagree that the President should pardon "Scooter" Libby?
Update: Top Legal Scholars rally to Libby's defense.

It's very well stated. I'll be even more interested in hearing what Thompson has to say about the malicious prosecution of two US Border Patrol agents currently doing hard time, including the outrageous prosecutorial immunity granted to the drug-smuggling illegal alien involved in the incident!
Thompson doesn't even have the conviction or urge to run for president, he is only being forced to. So what makes you think he really cares about Scooter Libby? I'm afraid we're going to see a lot of pandering and kowtowing from ol' Fred.
Anon,
With that kind of vituperrious comment about Thompson's not being in the race I'm not surprised that you go on to use pandering and kowtowing. 'smatter? See a pretty strong conservative on the horizon?
My guess: He cares more about Scooter Libby than Bill Clinton cared about Mark Rich.
geezer,
No I see a lazy actor looking for a better role. At least Ronald Reagan had some public service accomplishments by 1980, no? Get a clue.
I would like the Republicans to nominate someone I can support vs. Hillary. I'm over the Clintons, by now you should be too.
Liberal says a pardon has perils.
I think anon 2:56 displays his true motives every time he posts on this. Don't be fooled by Democrats trying to sway Republican primaries. (The conclusion is the same whatever his "official" registration is.)
David Broder says Libby Judge got sentence right.
