U. S. Senate OVERWHELMINGLY approves ethics reform bill.
The U. S. Senate has overwhelmingly, by a vote of 83-14 (both of Kentucky's Senators voted for the measure; and yes, Senator Stevens of Alaska had an FBI search induced change of heart and voted yes!), approved the ethics bill I previously reported on that the House approved by a vote of 411 to 18.
Though the bill did not go far enough, and shows Congress "lying to the American people that we're fixing earmarks when we're not", as said by Senator Thomas Coburn, an Oklahoma Republican, or as its critics have compared it to "allow[ing] the fox to guard the hen house," according to Senator James DeMint, a South Carolina Republican, it is a giant step in the right direction deserving of applause, as we attempt to stop the selling of our cherished Republican (Democratic) system of government.
