White House in "Prosecutorgate", but is it fair?
The White House is caught up in what may be classified as Prosecutorgate. It involves the firings of certain U. S. Attorneys in what critics allege is politically motivated. Congressional Democrats smell blood, so to speak, and are threatening to hold hearings in the matter. However, as was reported, "[t]he U.S. attorneys, the chief federal law enforcement officials in their various districts, typically are appointed to four-year terms by the president on the recommendation of state political leaders, but serve at the pleasure of the president and can be dismissed at any time — like the attorney general and other Cabinet officers." So the proper question is: what is all the fuss about and is it fair to the White House to have the firing issue politicized as it is now?
